USER NOTES:
Sinkhole Database Disclaimer:

This geologic data was developed by the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection (FDEP) - Florida Geological Survey (FGS) to carry out agency responsibilities
related to management, protection, and development of Florida's natural resources.
Although efforts have been made to make the information accurate and useful, the
FDEP/FGS assumes no responsibility for errors in the information and does not guarantee
that the data are free from errors or inaccuracies. Similarly FDEP/FGS assumes no
responsibility for the consequences of inappropriate uses or interpretations of the data.
As such, these digital data are distributed on an "as is" basis and the user assumes all
risk as to their quality, the results obtained from their use, and the performance of the data.
FDEP/FGS bears no responsibility to inform users of any changes made to this data. The
data in this database was obtained from a variety of sources. Sinkhole records listed in this
database, in many instances, have not been field checked or verified by FDEP/FGS
professional geologists. Additionally, the locations of many of these sinkholes have not been
verified. As such, anyone using this data is advised that precision implied by the data may far
exceed actual precision. Comments on this data are invited and FDEP/FGS would appreciate
that documented errors be brought to staff attention. The development of these data sets
represents a major investment of staff time and effort. As a professional responsibility, we
expect that the FDEP/FGS will receive proper credit when you utilize these data sets. Further,
since part of this data was developed and collected with U.S. Government or State of Florida
funding, no proprietary rights may be attached to it in whole or in part, nor may it be sold to the
U.S. Government or the Florida State Government as part of any procurement of products or
services .The use of information from the FGS site by a third party does not indicate that the FGS
recommends or endorses the third party user or their services.

Use Constraints:
The sinkhole data contained in this coverage represents only those sinkholes that have been
reported to the Florida Geological Survey and the Florida Sinkhole Research Institute between
the years of 1945 and 2005 and does not represent the total number of sinkholes that may have
developed in Florida. Sinkhole reports may not have been verified by any geotechnical firm or
professional geologist and therefore may be suspect as to the actual cause of the feature.

Please note: In this dataset, there are sinkhole locations that fall directly on top of each other.

Note about Horizontal Locational Accuracy:
Many sinkhole reports, especially reports prior to 1990, did not contain GPS/DGPS location
references. Latitudinal and Longitudinal reference was derived from Public Land Survey System
(PLSS) coverages of Section, Township, and Range including quarter/quarter/quarter information
and/or references to a local physical address if possible. Location positions are not accurate
for scales of greater than 1:100,000

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
GeoPlan received this data via the internet as an excel file and converted
it to a shape file and :

-deleted point that appeared in middle of Atlantic Ocean
-added FGDLAQDATE field based on the date FGDL acquired the
 data from the source.
-added FLAG_0 field to flag the records that were recieved with Latitudinal
and Longitudinal Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds, but no Decimal Degrees.
In these cases GeoPlan calculated the Decimal Degrees using the Degrees,
Minutes, and Seconds.
-added descript field based on 'ONAME'
-Projected the data to FGDL Albers
Process Date: 20051021
