TITLE: RAILWAY LINES, SIDINGS, AND YARDS

Geodataset Name: RAILRD
Geodataset Type: Shape
Geodataset Feature: Line

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A geographic and topological network database of the U.S. railroad system, showing the location of all main line tracks, most sidings, spurs and interlockings, and the boundaries of major rail yards. Track segments are labeled with the alphanumeric identifier of the owning railroad, and the major and minor attribute codes inherited from the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) digital line graphs (DLG).

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

Originally the data was 1:100,000-scale USGS Digital Line Graphs. This data, originating from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), was modified by the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center and then processed by the Center for Urban Transportation Research(CUTR) at the University of South Florida. GeoPlan obtained the data from CUTR.
