The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html |

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
After retrieving the data from the individual County Property Appraisers' Offices, Panda Consulting normalized and standardized the data to allow joining the data with the published tax roll and sale information. The raw data from the Property Appraisers' offices is scrubbed to remove barriers to efficiently utilizing the data. Once the raw data is obtained, Panda Consulting imports the parcel polygons into a standardized geodatabase feature class. performing the standardization and projection simultaneously, performs a dissolve on the parcel number field to ensure no duplication and performs the repair geometry function at least twice on each County data set to ensure valid geometry for importation into SDE geodatabases. Likewise, the standard 12D8 file (NAL) is also obtained and standardized so the attribute information can be calculated. The primary key fields in the polygon and the NAL files are then standardized to ensure a valid join and the all respective fields are calculated. All 46 columns in the NSDI / FGDC Core Parcel feature class are included in the structure, (although the values for many of the columns are not available from the Property Appraisers.) Original FGDB: Statewide_2014V1_20141002.gdb. The dataset was in the following projection: Albers Conical Equal Area [Florida Geographic Data Library]. GeoPlan restructured the attribute table to better match the previous versions of parcel data available on FGDL and fit the shapefile field length standards. See below for table crosswalk. Additionally GeoPlan checked the longest record for each field and shortened the field lengths to decrease the size and increase the functionality of the statewide layer. GeoPlan reviewed/compared the geometry with the 2012 parcels. GeoPlan added missing features that were also appended to the 2012 data layer, LUCODEs 995 and 999. Added fields; LINK, LU_RES, LUCODE, DESCRIPT, FGDLAQDATE, and AUTOID. - Calculated LUCODE based on the parcels land use value DORUC, added value 100 for uses not covered, added values 995 and 999 where GeoPlan inserted missing features. - Calculated DESCRIPT based on the FDOR description for the DORUC values. GeoPlan missing features DESCRIPT (995: NO DATA AVAILABLE (WATER)) and (999: NO DATA AVAILABLE). - Reviewed the LUCODE 028 features, and marked the LU_RES field = 'YES' where Mobile Homes were located (using imagery). - Updated the LU_RES = 'YES' for all of the following LUCODEs; 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, and 008. GeoPlan uppercased all of the records. GeoPlan ran the Multipart to Singlepart Command in order to break apart multipart polygons at the countywide extent which where hindering correct acreage summaries at smaller extents. GeoPlan ran the Repair Geometry tool 3x. GeoPlan ran the Check Geometry tool and reviewed/fixed polygons that where flagged. GeoPlan reviewed the geometry with the Feature to Point tool. - GeoPlan removed polygons with extreme geometry issues that would not convert to point. GeoPlan ran the Repair Geometry tool 3x. GeoPlan removed polygons with ACRES = 0 GeoPlan updated the ACRES values using Calculate Geometry. GeoPlan updated the IMPROVVAL field with JV - LNDVAL GeoPlan updated the ASSD_BLD field with AVSD - ASSD_LND GeoPlan updated the REVISEDDATE field (BLANK) with the combined date from the following fields; ACQDATEMO, ACQDATEDAY, and ACQDATEYR. GeoPlan Restructured the attributes table to meet the shapefile field length standards and align better with the 2012 data layer. (Field: types, sizes, positions, and name lengths have been updated) GeoPlan Compressed the ESRI FGDB 10.1 to reduce storage requirements, the compression applied is lossless. Once compressed, a dataset looks the same in ArcCatalog and ArcMap as when it was uncompressed. Compressed file geodatabase data takes up less disk space than uncompressed data while still offering comparable display and query performance. Compression is ideally suited to mature datasets that do not require further editing. However, if required, a compressed dataset can always be uncompressed to return it to its original, read/write format. http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.3/java/index.htm#geodatabases/file_g-1798439258.htm |
