TITLE: GENERALIZED LAND USE DERIVED FROM 2015 PARCELS - FLORIDA DOT DISTRICT 4

Geodataset Name: D4_LU_GEN_2015
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: Polygon
Feature Count: 164729
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains generalized land use derived from parcel specific land use for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4. The original 99 land use classes from the parcel data have been collapsed into 15 generalized classes. Please Note: As of 2015 there has been a change to the original FDOR 99 Land Use Values. Value 009 is now 'Residential Common Elements / Areas' this land use value maintains the same Generalized Land Use code 11 - RESIDENTIAL. Value 080 is now 'Vacant Governmental' this land use value does not maintain the same Generalized Land Use code 7 - OTHER, instead it is now classified as Generalized Land Use Code 8 - PUBLIC/SEMI-PUBLIC. This layer is an update to the FGDL layer D4_LU_GEN_2014.shp

OBJECTID Internal feature number.

Shape Feature geometry.

LANDUSE15_ The 15 generalized land use code numbers.

PARCOUNT Number of parcels. Please Note: Some Multi-part Parcels have been split during the Single Part Dissolve process, for those polygons there will be only one record for the actual parcel count, which will result in a few of these features having a PARCOUNT = 0. One Example would be a Multi-part Parcel which contains two separate polygons split by a road, there is only one centroid created for the count field, so one of the halves will have a PARCOUNT = 1 while the other will have a PARCOUNT = 0. Since there isn't that many Multi-part parcels this should affect less than 3% of the records.

ACRES Number of Acres.

DESCRIPT FGDL added field derived from generalized parcels specific land use class description.

FGDLAQDATE The date FGDL acquired the data from the Source.

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data
compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from
the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is
collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees
about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check
with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist.

Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'.
The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties
or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data
provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center
makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability

modifying, contributing or distributing the materials.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
GeoPlan used the available Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
District 4 2015 parcel tax data records gathered from the State
Department of Revenue (DOR) and County Property Appraisers by Panda
Consulting to create the generalized land use shapefile.
[Original Statewide Parcel Layer: Statewide_2015V2_20150918.gdb]

The generalized land use shapefile was created by taking the
existing parcel data's 99 available land uses [found in the parcel
data's DORUC field] and generalized them down to 15 land use classes.

A single part dissolve was then run based on the 15 land uses.

A multi delete script was then run to remove any unwanted fields
and add an ACRES field and DESCRIPT field.

The DESCRIPT field was calculated based on the Generalized Land
Use Class Description.

Next the Simplify Polygon GeoProcessing Function was used with
the Point Remove Algorithm to remove redundant points, such as
over-digitized vertices found throughout the layer, this function was
also used to compress the file size of the layer via a relatively low
degree of simplification. Then during this simplification process a
tolerance equal to 1-meter was set in order to allow for a maximum
offset of 1m from the original source data. Because the original file
size of the layer prohibited the use of the 'Resolve Errors' option, a
'No Check' option was used during the process; because of this
the algorithm may have introduced small topological errors to the
simplified results. To correct for topological errors created
during this process the Repair Geometry Function was run three times.

Next the Integrate Command GeoProcessing Function was run with
a tolerance of 1m. To correct for topological errors created during this
process the Repair Geometry Function was then run three times.

The PARCOUNT field was populated by using a spatial join with the
Label Point layer made from the Parcel centroids. The Label Point layer
had been dissolved on NPARNO in order to get one count per parcel id,
please note NPARNO = '' and other no value fields were exploded out
to their single part format using the editor before the spatial join was
performed.

The Acres field was recalculated and features that were < 0.001
were Eliminated (GeoProcessing Command) by border. To correct
for topological errors created during this process the Repair Geometry
Function was then run three times.

After this was completed the ACRES field was repopulated once more using
the Calculated Geometry function.
