Additional explanations of attributes:

CARLID CARL identifier. Unique numerical identifier, 5 digits code,
            designed by FNAI.
CNTYS County code(s). Abbreviation for the county or counties where
the CARL project is located. FL plus the first four letters
            of the county name.
SITECODE Site code. Unique alphanumerical identifier for each site,
designed by The Nature Conservancy. Begins with "S.USFLHP*"
SITENAME Site name. The name of the CARL project, or portion of the
CARL project, represented by the site. For CARL projects
that are composed of multiple sites (e.g., Dade County
Archipelago CARL Project), the SITENAME for each site begins
with the name of the CARL project , and this is followed by
the name of the particular site within the project (e.g.,
Dade County Archipelago CARL Project Whispering Pines).
MAPDATE Map Date. The date (yymmdd) of the CARL project source
map on which GIS boundaries are based.
BND_JUST Boundary Justification. The name and date of the CARL project
or portion of the CARL project (i.e., site within the CARL
project) represented by the GIS boundaries.
PRISEC_A Primary and Secondary Acres. Total acreage of the CARL
project when the CARL project is not divided into multiple
sites. In this case, PRIMA_ A is 00. Figures are not GIS
calculated (i.e., not polygonbased); instead, they are
derived from the 1998 CARL Annual Report.
When a CARL project is divided into multiple sites, and
--the sizes of the individual component sites are known, PRISEC_A
represents the acreage of the individual site rather than the
entire CARL project. In this case, PRIMA_A is 00.
--the sizes of all sites within a project are not known, the
total project size is listed in PRISEC_A for only one of
the component sites, and PRIMA_A is used for individual
              site acres (see below).
PRIMA_A Primary Acres. Figures are not GIScalculated (i.e., not
polygonbased) but are derived from the 1998 CARL Annual
Report. This attribute is used only when a CARL project
is made up of more than one site and the sizes of all the
individual sites within the project are not known. In
this case, PRIMA_A represents the acreage of the particular
site within the project, and the size of the entire CARL
project is listed under PRISEC_A once, for only one of the
component sites. To determine which site, refer to the
            attribute.
SITE_COM. If the CARL project is not divided into multiple sites,
            PRIMA_A is 00.
PROTCOM Protection Comments. Number of acres within the CARL project
that have been protected (i.e., purchased by the CARL program
or one of its acquisition partners), and CARL's acquisition
partners, if any. If these data are not available, this
            attribute has been left blank.
MACOM Managed Area Comments. Relationship of CARL project to
managed area(s). If a portion of the CARL project site
has been purchased and is currently being managed, MACOM
gives name of Managed Area and managing agency. If no
portion of the site has been purchased, or acquisition
data is not available, this field is left blank.
SITERELA Site Relations. Gives relationship of this CARL project
site to other sites, including CARL projects. Indicates
whether the CARL project site represented by the GIS
boundaries is greater than (>), less than (<), or equal
to () the CARL project or another site. For example,
Whispering Pines is a site within the Dade County Archipelago
CARL Project, and it was added to the project in 1996. This
relationship is described in SITERELA as "CARL Project:
            Dade County Archipelago [1996] <".
SITE_DES Ecological description of the site.
SITE_COM Site Comments. Miscellaneous information about CARL project,
including dates of additions/deletions to project boundary,
explanation of other attribute fields (e.g., PRISEC_A)
associated with project, and relationship of CARL project
to its component sites or to certain rare species occurrences.
DESCRIPT Based on SITENAME, see above

USER NOTES:

These lands have been proposed for acquisition because of outstanding natural resources, opportunity for natural resourcebased recreation, or historical and archaeological resources. However, these areas may not be currently managed for their resource value. Portions of these projects may have already been acquired by the State.

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multicounty or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

In addition to a small portion of boundaries received as digital files from the CARL Program, the majority of boundary information was on paper source maps with various scales. FNAI staff transcribed the boundaries onto 1:24,000 USGS topographic quadrangles. FNAI's GIS staff then digitized boundaries from the USGS quadrangles. The following digitizers were used by the FNAI GIS:

CalComp DBII, accuracy of +/ .01 inch
CalComp DBIII, accuracy of +/ .005 inch
CalComp 9500 Series, accuracy of +/ .005 inch

This GIS coverage was generated by using ARC/INFO ver 7.1.2 (unix) and exported to NONE compressed .e00 format. The coverages are in projection of ALBERS. The following contents are in the projection_file:
