These data are available for all people interested in the locations of human-black bear interactions in the state of Florida.

All positions recorded from an address location and converted to Latitude and Longitude; errors vary depending upon precision and accuracy of geocoding service.

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

Dataset Preparation: Using the Query tool, we extracted nuisance records, 1980-2011, from a Microsoft Access database maintained by FWC's Black Bear Management Program. The dataset was visually inspected for attribute errors by college interns with the Program. Process Date: 2012 We imported the completed nuisance dataset into ArcGIS (version 9.3, ESRI, Redlands, California) as a shapefile. Then, we assigned North American Datum 1983 as the datum for the latitude/longitude geographic coordinates. In part to evaluate the positional and attribute accuracy of the data, we overlaid the points onto both county and state layers. Process Date: 2009 GeoPlan received the data in June of 2012 from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission via email from Rebecca Telesco (Rebecca.Telesco@MyFWC.com). The data was in the following projection: Albers NAD 83 HARN. During the AQ/QC process the following tasks were undertaken: - Redefined the dataset's projection from FDEP Albers to FGDL Albers. - Renamed the dataset from Bear_Calls_1980-2011 to bearnuisance_2011 - Upcased all fields. - Added a DESCRIPT field based on "NATUREOFRE". - Added FGDLAQDATE based on date FGDL acquired the data.
