The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

These data are available for all people interested in the locations of human-black bear interactions in the state of Florida.

All positions recorded from an address location and converted to Latitude and Longitude; errors vary depending upon precision and accuracy of geocoding service.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy has not been verified by GeoPlan

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

Dataset Preparation: Using the Query tool, we extracted nuisance records, 1980-2009, from a Microsoft Access database maintained by FWC's Black Bear Management Program. The dataset was visually inspected for attribute errors by college interns with the Program. Process Date: 2009 We imported the completed nuisance dataset into ArcGIS (version 9.3, ESRI, Redlands, California) as a shapefile. Then, we assigned North American Datum 1983 as the datum for the latitude/longitude geographic coordinates. In part to evaluate the positional and attribute accuracy of the data, we overlaid the points onto both county and state layers. Process Date: 2009 GeoPlan received the data in September 2010 from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission via CD-ROM. The data was projected in the North American Datum of 1983. - Reprojected to FGDL Albers HPGN Projection. - Renamed the dataset from Bear_Calls_1980-2009 to bearnuisance_2009 - Upcased all fields. - Shorten table field lengths. - Added a DESCRIPT field based on RecordType. - Added FGDLAQDATE based on date FGDL acquired the data. Process Date: 20101004 Data imported to ArcSDE and exported as a shapefile Process Date: 20101014
