Version The VERSION is a 2-digit number that will be incremented for
all records in the database whenever a new release is
distributed.
Revision The REVISION is a 2-digit number that will be incremented
individually for each record whenever a change is made to
one of its fields.
Moddate The MODDATE (or modification date) indicates when each record
in the database was last changed.
Pointid PointID is a sequential unique integer assigned
to each record.
Featureid Unique line identifier
Longitude The longitude of the point in decimal degrees with six
implied decimal places
Latitude The latitude of the point in decimal degrees with six implied
decimal places
Stfips Two character State FIPS Code
Str_addres Street address of station
City Name of city where station is located
State State railroad abbreviation which follows the Postal abbreviation
Zipcode Postal ZIP Code for station
Status Station status in 2000

BUS = Served by a thruway bus not a train
BUS/SEASON = Service provided by a thruway bus in certain
seasons only
CLOSED = Closed
CONNECTING = Service provided by a VIA Rail Canada Service
operated train connecting with an Amtrak train.
FUTURE = Service to be provided by train at a date to be
announced
FUTURE/BUS = Service to be provided by thruway bus at a date
to be announced
SEASONAL = Seasonal service

address, the location is an estimated or educated guess.
2MIL - The location of the station was outside the area
covered by the TIGER/line(TM) 95 street and the FRA 1:100K
rail networks. Hence, the station location was placed
using the FRA 1:2Million scale networks.
UNKN - The data for the longitude and latitude were taken
from previous versions of this database. However, there
was insufficient information, namely an unidentifiable
street address, to allow a definitive review of the placement.

GeoPlan downloaded this data in shapefile format from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: http://www.bts.gov/gis/ntatlas/facilities.html When received, data was in the following projection: Geographic, Datum: NAD83, Spheroid: GRS1980, Units: Decimal Degrees. The data was projected to FGDL Albers HPGN. The dataset's prior history is below: Process_Description: Each Amtrak railroad or thruway bus station identified in the Amtrak Timetables was initially geocoded based on its street address and ZIP Code, using the geocoding procedures in TransCAD (TM) software and the TIGER/Line(TM) 1995 street centerline databases. Stations with ambiguous street addresses were then located using a combination of geographic cues, including location of nearest railroad tracks, location of Standard Point Location Code (SPLC) place names, location of Census Named Places, and commercial road atlases. Stations with no street address and stations located in Canada were manually located based on place name and location of nearest railroad service. Data_Set_Credit: The Federal Railroad Administration compiled the data building on version 3 of these data compiled by Bruce D. Spear and published by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Process_Description: After completing topological and attribute Verification in ArcInfo, the data was converted to shapefile.
