A note about data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: <http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html>

GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the Northwest Florida Water Management District website (<http://www.nwfwmd.state.fl.us/isb/gis.htm>) in April 2005. The data was downloaded as a coverage and was in the following projection: NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_16N. The dataset was exported to a shapefile, and projected from NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_16N to FGDL Albers HPGN.
SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:
Parcels included in this data base are those for which the District has obtained an interest (fee, easement, flow easement, etc) or have been proposed for acquisition. For more information about the selection process see the land acquisition web site at <http://www.sfwmd.gov/site/index.php?id=10>.
The primary source of parcel boundary lines is the digital parcel boundary data derived from county programs. These are transferred or copied from district copies of the county layers. Parcel information maintained in an Oracle data base has been joined to the GIS spatial layers, and additional fields added, to produce the coverage attribute tables. Process Date: Unknown
GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the South Florida Water Management District website (<http://www.sfwmd.gov/org/gisit/index.html>) in July 2006. The data downloaded was in shapefile format and in the following projection: NAD 83 State Plane Florida East FIPS 0901 Feet. The dataset was projected from NAD 83 to FGDL Albers HPGN.
- All fields in the table were upcased. - The GIS Acres field was recalculated using x-tools. - The following fields contained no data and were deleted: ACQUISITION, CURRENT_NO, CLOSING_OW, PRIOR_NON - The following fields were also deleted: ACQ_ID, SFWOWN_ID, SFWMD_OWN_ID - A DESCRIPT field was added based on PROJECT_NA - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date downloaded from source - 145 Slivers (acreage of 0) were removed using the Eliminate command. Process Date: 20060711
ST. JOHNS WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:
The polygons and lines are from various sources including surveys that have been submitted as a requirement for purchase. Users should check the DIG-SOURCE / COGO-SOURCE attributes within the Polygon Attribute Table to determine the integrity of property boundaries. The Lands Acquisition Maps utilize the "acq_sym" attribute; polygons with no attributes or an empty "acq_sym" field are of no consequence (either they are sliver polygons produced during editing, or they are parcels no longer in public ownership and/or not targeted for acquisition.) GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the St. Johns River Water Management District website <http://sjr.state.fl.us/programs/data.html>) in July 2006. The data was downloaded in shapefile format and was in the following projection: NAD 1983 HARN UTM Zone 17N. The dataset was projected from NAD 1983 HARN UTM Zone 17N to FGDL Albers HPGN
- Upcased all records in the table. - Added a DESCRIPT field based on PARCEL_NAM - Added a FGDLAQDATE field based on date downloaded from source - Deleted fields SHAPE_AREA and SHAPE_LEN - Also deleted OBJECTID, LANDS_ID, DIGITAL_CA, SEQ_NUM, and COMMENTS - Added AREA and PERIMETER fields - Removed 18 slivers with acreage less than 0.09 acres Process Date: 20060711
SUWANNEE RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:
GeoPlan received this dataset from the Suwannee River Water Management District via email in August 2006. The data was received in shapefile format and was in the following projection: NAD_1983_HARN_StatePlane_Florida_North_FIPS_0903_Feet. The dataset was projected to FGDL Albers HPGN.
- A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date received from source. - Deleted TRANSLILNK4 field - Recalculated GIS_ACRES field with X-tools - Recalculated AREA and PERIMETER fields with X-tools - Removed Slivers (Feature count went from 1018 to 982) Process Date: 20060823
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:
FEE AND LESS-THAN-FEE ACQUISITIONS The ground control surveys used for creating the majority of these data were made by the Survey section of the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).
Some surveys were completed by individual survey firms under contract to the seller, but had to meet the Southwest Florida Water Management District Survey Section's requirements. A Professional Surveyor verified these from the Survey section of the SWFWMD.
For large multi-parcel acquisition projects, such as the Green Swamp and Annutteliga Hammock, surveys were not obtained for the small tracts (most are less than 20 acres). Sketches were made based on the legal descriptions. These projects are located in Lake, Polk and Hernando counties. Process Date: 20060622
This layer is derived from the District's Land Parcel layer. The ArcINFO DISSOLVE command was used to eliminate internal parcel lines and leave only the exterior project boundaries. A metadata report for the Parcel layer is available from the District.
Each new parcel is combined with the existing coverage and attributed within ArcEdit. Topology is created for the coverage using CLEAN or BUILD.
Since 2003, either a shapefile that is created in AutoCAD Map or a DXF file is provided of the parcel boundary. The file's projection is defined and then projected using ArcToolBox. The parcel is then combined with the existing Parcel feature class and attributed within ArcMap. The topology is validated and any errors corrected. Process Date: 20060622
GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the Southwest Florida Water Management District website: (<http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/data/gis/index.htm>) in July 2006. The data was downloaded in shapefile format and was in the following projection: NAD_1983_HARN_UTM_Zone_17N. The dataset was projected to FGDL Albers HPGN.
- A DESCRIPT item was added based on the item PROJECTNAM. - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date downloaded from source. - Deleted OBJECTID, Shape_len, and Shape_area - Recalculated ACRES with X-tools - Added AREA and PERIMETER fields with X-tools Process Date: 20060711
The five individual Water Management District shapefiles were merged using the merge command in ArcCatalog.
