Abstract:
This data set contains Florida's designated Wild & Scenic Rivers. The river lines were extracted from the data set of major rivers as identified in the "Florida Rivers Assessment", completed for the DNR in December 1989. In 2005 more line work was added by the South Florida Water Management District.
Purpose:
The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. This data was constructed by selecting linear attributes from the DLG Hydrological Data layer. The "Florida Rivers Assessment" was, when possible, used as a reference for selecting the boundaries of each water body. Wild & Scenic Rivers were extracted by name.

Original FGDL layer was created by Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC). GeoPlan received Loxahatchee Linework 8/15/05 from cconrad@sfwmd.gov. Deleted linework from existing wildriver layer that had overlap with new SFWMD linework. Merged lox_trappers_down (converted from poly to line before merge) also merged lox_trappers_up. The product of the merge is the new WILDRIVER_AUG05.
