Abstract:
The Priority Trails Map (Land) encompasses the most important corridors and connections within the FGTS Land Trails Opportunity Map. The Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) corridor included on this Priority Trails Map reflects the route currently proposed for designation by the US Forest Service. Whatever FNST route results from the current designation process will be included on the Priority Trails Map. The criteria for priority trails is outlined in the Florida Greenways & Trails System plan: <http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/FGTS_Plan/default.htm>
Purpose:
This GIS layer was created by the Office of Greenways of Trails as an update to the 2012 Priority Trails Map in support of the Florida Statewide Greenways & Trails System. Supplemental_Information:
The FGTS is made up of existing, planned and conceptual trails and ecological greenways that form a connected, integrated statewide network. The FGTS serves as a green infrastructure plan for Florida, tying together the greenways and trails plans and planning activities of communities, agencies and non-profit organizations throughout Florida. The Opportunity Maps address Goal 1 of the FGST Plan - "Identify and prioritize trails and greenways to facilitate completion of the FGTS." The Opportunity Maps contain the comprehensive vision for the FGTS.

This dataset should be used in conjunction with the Office of Greenways and Trails Florida Greenways & Trails System Plan 2013-2017. Pursuant to Chapter 260.0141 Florida Statutes: Planning materials, maps, and data and other information developed or used in the Greenways and Trails Program shall not be construed as designation of lands as part of the statewide system of greenways and trails. Identification of lands on this map shall not: 1. Require or empower any unit of local government, or any state agency, to impose additional or more restrictive environmental, land-use, or zoning regulations; 2. Be construed or cited as authority to adopt, enforce, or amend any environmental rule or regulation; comprehensive plan goals, policies, or objectives; or zoning or land-use regulations; 3. Be used as the basis for permit denial; imposition of any permit condition; or application of any rule, regulation, or ordinance by any subdivision of local, regional, or state government, or; 4. Be construed or cited as authority by any governmental agency to reduce or restrict the rights of owners of lands so identified.

A note about data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis.
