Item
Item Description
OBJECTID Internal feature number.

Shape Feature geometry.

SPRING_KEY DEP generated primary key computer generated consecutive numbers from spring masterlist.

DATA_SOURC Originator of basic record information used for this dataset.

SPRING_NAM Name given by source information.

STATION_NA Name of station.

STATION_ID Unique code to identify station.

1 = 1st Magnitude - > 100 cubic feet per second (cfs)

2 = 2nd Magnitude -   >10 - 100 cfs

3 = 3rd Magnitude -    >1 - 10 cfs

4 = 4th Magnitude -    >100 gal/min (gallons per minute) - 448 gal/min (1 cfs

5 = 5th Magnitude -    >10 to 100 gal/min

6 = 6th Magnitude -    >1 to 10 gal/min

7 = 7th Magnitude -    >1 pint to 1 gal/min

8 = 8th Magnitude -    Equal to or less than 1 pint/min

0 = 0 Magnitude - No longer flowing but may recover

None = None - No longer flowing at any time

Unknown = Unknown - No record of spring discharge available

HISTORIC_M Assigned historic magnitudes for a spring or group of springs.

STATION_AL Undefined by source.

IWR_BASIN_ Undefined by source.

TMDL_BASIN FDEP TMDL basin consisting of one or more major river basins, I.E., one or more hydrologic unit codes.

WATER_MGMT The water management district the spring is located.

TMDL_PLANN The TDML planning unit the spring is located in.

DEP_DISTRI The FDEP district the spring is located in.

DESCRIPT Based on SPRING_NAM.

FGDLAQDATE The date FGDL aquired the data.

AUTOID Unique ID added by GeoPlan

USER NOTES:
The integrity of the data is as supplied by multiple data providers. An official FDEP
spring name was assigned to assist in providing a generic naming convention to all
Florida springs. Where there was more than one spring in the state with a similar name
the county was also included in the spring name. There may be times where the station
name is inaccurate or does not adhere to the official FDEP naming convention.
This dataset contains the best available location for springs that have had some data
collection activities in the State of Florida. Currently, 756 unique spring vents are
represented in this dataset.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.
The primary sources for this dataset were Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Springs database,
online springs station inventories maintained by the State of Florida's Water Management Districts, data
downloads from GWIS, STORET, USGS, and the Florida Geological Survey's Bulletin 31 and 66 Springs of Florida
Encyclopedia. The FDEP has revised the classification system for magnitude to add clarity for those springs
that may stop flowing on an intermittent or permanent basis.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) SPRING
MAGNITUDE CATEGORIES for this report (see Entity Attributes) was
developed to differentiate between those springs that may flow once
again in the future, depending on aquifer levels and recharge (Magnitude = 0),
and those springs that have ceased flowing entirely and are not expected
to recover regardless of changes in hydrogeologic and climatic conditions
(Magnitude = None). This layer is intended to be used for mapping
purposes, and as a reference to the locations of sites where data collection
has taken place in spring vents. Users of this information are encouraged
to provide comments and recommendations for updates.

The best available location for each spring was selected based on the following general
hierarchy - FGS Bulletin 66, WMDs, USGS and then STORET. All of the springs were
projected to the Florida Albers coordinate system from the "native" latitude/longitude.

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data
compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from
the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is
collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees
about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check
with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist.

Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'.
The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties
or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data
provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center
makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability
of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited
to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular

shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using,
modifying, contributing or distributing the materials.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
Geometry and attribute data were compiled into shapefile format and submitted
for insertion into the FDEP SDE Library.
Process Date: 20090831

GeoPlan Downloaded the dataset from the FDEP's GeoData Directory Website at http://www.dep.state.fl.us/gis/datadir.htm. When received the data was in shapefile format and was in the following projection: North American Datum of 1983 HARN. GeoPlan, during the QA/QC Process included the following aspects: - Renamed the dataset from SPRING_FLORIDA to springs_fdep_2009 - Upcased all fields - Added a DESCRIPT field based on SPRING_NAME - Added a FGDLAQDATE based on the date FGDL acquired the data Process Date: 20100126
Data imported to ArcSDE and exported as a shapefile. Process Date: 20100225
