This data set contains resource group locations and attributes as recorded at the Florida Master Site File (FMSF). Resource groups are historical districts, archaeological districts or building complexes. Individual resources contributing to the resource group are usually (but are not always) separately listed in the Florida Master Site File.
The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.

Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html

GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data.
The locations of archaeological sites, historic structures, unmarked human burials, cemeteries, and other cultural features contained in this and other) Florida Master Site File data layers are for resource management, law enforcement, and research purposes only.
The original location information is based on field reports, FMSF forms and National Register nomination forms which have been submitted to the Florida Master Site File by many and varied individuals, groups, institutions, and cultural resource firms. Submissions to the Site File are sometimes accepted from amateurs as well as professionals. The accuracy of submitted information cannot always be verified.
This data is provided 'as is'. GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the original data layer's topology
This data is provided 'as is' by GeoPlan and is complete to our knowledge.
This data is provided 'as is' and its horizontal positional accuracy has not been verified by GeoPlan

Spatial and Attribute Information
This data was originally created by the Division of Historical Resources. Resource group boundaries are digitized on-screen in ArcInfo 8.x using Scanned, georeferenced, 1:24,000 scale USGS quadrangles as the base maps.
When received by Geoplan, the data was in the following projection: Geographic, Datum: NAD27, Spheroid: Clarke 1866, Units: Decimal Degrees. The shapefile was projected to FGDLAlbers HPGN (See "Map Projection Parameters" below) in ArcToolBox using the Florida Harn Transformation. -Reprojected to FGDL Albers HPGN -Added DESCRIPT field based on SITENAME to attribute table -Added fields FGDLAQDATE -Upcased all items in the attribute talbe -Changed file name to shpo_res_groups from ResourceGroups

This is the official state site number assigned by the Florida Master Site File. The state site number is an eight character string containing a two character county code, a five character numeric code, and an optional single letter character suffix (suffix letter is generally used to indicate sites that are functionally or spatially related).
Bureau of Archaeological Research
The site name as recorded at the Florida Master Site File. Usually the principal or best known name for a cultural resource. A site name of "NN" indicates no name has been designated for the site.
Bureau of Archaeological Research
This field indicates the type of resource group represented. There are four possible values:
Bureau of Archaeological Research
Buildings or structures, no archaeological sites
Archaeological sites only
Contains both archaeological sites and buildings or structures
Multiple buildings in close functional and spatial association
This a coded value indicating the National Register of Historic Places category the resource group fits into. The possible values are:
Bureau of Archaeological Research
Building(s)
District
Object
Site
Structure
Multiple Resource Area
Thematic Group
Multiple Property Submission
The city in which the resource group is located (or nearest city).
Bureau of Archaeological Research
For districts this indicates the number of contributing resources.
Bureau of Archaeological Research
The total number of cultural resources included in the resource group. For districts this number includes both contributing and non-contributing resources.
Bureau of Archaeological Research
Time periods of significance. This is a date range for historic resources and an archaeological phase name with approximate date for prehistoric resources.
