Data in usSEABED are based on the observations and analyses of others, filtered through a unifying and mining software. Each source report varies in type of information/data recorded and format. Only those observations that are recorded can be filtered and mined; only presence (not absence) or information can be noted. |
The original dataset included over 120,000 points, covering the entire Atlantic Coast of the United States. GeoPlan deleted all points above the latitude 30.8633. |
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data. |
|
The CLC data is the most derivative and certainly the least accurate; however, many clients appreciate that it extends the coverage of map areas with attributes, especially physical properties attributes. To build a digital mapping of the character of the seabed on regional, national and global scales. These data are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and the general public. The data can be used with geographic information systems (GIS) software to display geologic and oceanographic information. |
Locational accuracy is dependent on the accuracy of the navigational technique from the individual data sources and may vary widely (e.g., from 0.005km (differential GPS) in more recent surveys to greater than 2 km based on radar, Loran, or dead reckoning in older surveys.) Users of the data should use their own criteria for assessing the accuracy of the locations. |

THE DATA INCLUDED IN FGDL ARE 'AS IS' AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING, MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. usSEABED: Atlantic Coast Offshore Surficial Sediment Data Release http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/2005/118/images/pdf/report.pdf |
Data was downloaded by GeoPlan from the U.S. Geological Survey in shapefile format in December 2006. When received, data was in the following projection: GCS North American 1983, Units: Meters. The original data was included all inspections and probing points along the entire Atlantic Coast. During the QA/QC process the following aspects were included: (1) The original file name, atl_clc.shp, was changed to seabed_atl_clc_2005 (2) Projected data to FGDL Albers. (3) All points above latitude 30.8633 were deleted. (4) Deleted the following blank fields: SHEPARDCOD, MUNSLCODE, FOLKCODE, SEABEDCLS (5) Added the DESCRIPT field based on SITENAME (6) Added the FGDLAQDATE field. Process Date: 20061208 |
