LENGTH Length of the segment

FRAID The link ID in the network structure.

NET Use status.
A = Abandoned route

F = Active Route

X = Other active or abandoned track

RROWNER1 The reporting mark of the 1st owning railroad. A mark of 'XXXX' indicates an abandoned link. Rule 260 codes are used where available. A mark of 'DUMX' indicates an added connecting link.

TR1 Reporting mark of the 1st railroad having trackage-rights.

TR2 Reporting marks of any additional railroads having trackage rights.

TR3 Reporting marks of any additional railroads having trackage rights.

TR4 Reporting marks of any additional railroads having trackage rights.

BR1 The reporting marks of any railroad which does the billing for either

BR2 The reporting marks of any additional railroad which does the billing

PREVRR1 The reporting mark of the last carrier to own/operate the line if known, rule 260 Code.

PREVRR2 The reporting mark of the carrier owning the line in the near post-WWII period, rule 260 Code. If the current owner or subsidiary road owned the line, the mark is not repeated.

ABANDONED Abandoned flag
(Blank) = Link In Use

A = Abandoned

PASS Type of passenger rail flag
A = Amtrak Line

C = Commuter line

T = Tourist line

R = Rail line now used for rapid transit

X = Previous passenger line

Y = Undesignated service

MILITARY Type of military interest flag - this code should match the publication 'Civil Rail Lines Important to 'National Defense, September, 2003'.
(blank) = Not important

S = On the STRACNET system

C = A connector to the STRACNET system

STATE State postal code

FIPS5 The five character FIPS code for the county of the link.

FRA_REG FRA region number (Leading zeros count)
20 = Canada

30 = Mexico

DENSITY Density Category for the latest year available, 2003.
0.0 = Unknown or dummy.

1.0 = 0.1 to 4.9 MGTM/Mi

2.0 = 5.0 to 9.9 MGTM/Mi

CTC = Centralized Traffic Control

ABS = Automatic Block Signals

ACS = Automatic Cab Signals

ATS = Automatic Train Stop

ATC = Automatic Train Control

MAN = Manual Block, including dark

TTO = Time Table/Train Order

LAST_DEN The density code for the previous year. This value uses the same values as the latest year's density code above.

USER NOTES:
The network is not topologically connected. There should be no redundancy
of lines or nodes in the data set. The data set is geographically accurate at
the 1:100,000 scale.

RITA/BTS quality checks were to cross reference the place dataset with the
state dataset, to determine that the spatial data and attribute data were accurate
This data is provided "as is" by GeoPlan and is complete to our knowledge.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.

The data are created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a
variety of planning and analytical purposes.

The horizontal accuracy for these data can be stated as being that associated
with data compiled at the 1:100,000 scale.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy
has not been verified by GeoPlan

THE DATA INCLUDED IN FGDL ARE 'AS IS' AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED
AS LEGALLY BINDING. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL
NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING,
MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:
