A note about data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: <http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html>

Within the county parcel datasets is information regarding tax codes in the field 'TAXAUTHCD'. In this field, a value, or id number, is listed that corresponds to a city. Using this field and ArcMap 8.3, the tax code boundaries were mapped and classified according to this tax code id#. These were then traced, and/or digitized, to make a city limit. After the creation of these cities all data was appropiately named and then merged to make one statewide dataset.
GeoPlan performed the following steps during the QA/QC Process:
-Dissolved and generalized(with an offset equal to 1) tax codes boundaries for the State of Florida from 2003 parcel data using the field 'TAXAUTHCD'.
Traced, and/or digitized, tax codes creating homogenous polygons representative of municipality boundaries.
-Broward County- the additions of Weston, Deerfield Bch., Hillsboro Bch., Lighthouse Pnt., Sea Ranch Lakes, Lauderdale By The Sea, sections of Pompano and Parkland from digitizing portions of the "Broward Municipalities" dataset obtained from Broward County GIS. <http://gis.broward.org/gisdata/>
Duval County- Merged the Jacksonville City limits from existing 'CITYLM' shapefile to updated 'CITYLM'.
Flagler County- parts of Palm Coast were amended using a .pdf file from the City of Palm Coast. <http://www.ci.palm-coast.fl.us/>
Lake County- Umatilla, Mount Dora, Tavares, and Eustis were derived from the Lake County Department of Planning and Development dataset "Municipal Boundaries". <http://www.lakegovernment.com/departments/growth_management>
Martin County- northern half of Jupiter Island was obtained by tracing the "Municipal Boundaries" dataset from Martin county GIS. <http://www.martin.fl.us/GOVT/depts/isd/gis/data.html>
Polk County- Highland Park, Hillcrest Heights, Frostproof, Mulberry, and Bartow were added, or amended to, by using GeoPlans existing the 'CITYLM' dataset, roads dataset, and a .pdf provided by Polk County GIS. <http://www.polkpa.org/home.asp?mnu=Home>
Miami-Dade County- Doral and Palmetto limits added using Miami-Dade GIS ArcIMS data. <http://www.miamidade.gov/egov/gis/home.htm>
Palm Beach County- Briny Breezes added from GeoPlans existing 'CITYLM'.
Walton County- Freeport, Paxton, and Northern portion of Defuniak Springs added from GeoPlans existing 'CITYLM'.
Collier County- Marco Islands northeast portion amended to by using "CITY" dataset which was obtained from Collier County GIS dept. <http://gis.colliergov.net/website/CollierGIS/>
Washington, Citrus, and Highlands were all obtained from GeoPlans existing 1998 'CITYLM' due to the absence of parcel data.
Suwannee County- All cities were obtained using 2004 parcel data.
Franklin County- Eastpoint and Lanark Village were obtained from 2004 parcel data, all other cities were obtained from GeoPlan's 1998 'CITYLM'.
Sumter County- Bushnell, Center Hill, Coleman, Webster, and Wildwood were obtained from 2002 spatial parcel data with a 2003 tax data table.
Broward County- Southwest Ranches was added using 2004 parcel data.
Miami-Dade County- Miami Lakes was added using 2004 parcel data and Islandia was obtained from GeoPlan's 1998 'CITYLM'.
All data was merged, creating a Statewide city limits dataset.
GeoPlan added the field 'FGDLAQDATE'.
