Abstract:

This data set contains cemetery parcel data from 67 individual counties obtained through the State of Florida Department of Revenue (DOR) 2010 tax data. Please Note: This layer has not been ground-truthed and should not be the sole data source used to identify cemetery locations. There are known errors in this layer where parcels included may not physically include a cemetery site. Some parcels identified in this layer have been assigned their land use designation based on the owner of the property rather than their current use. In such cases, these lots may actually be vacant and/or used for parking or other purposes related to the owner. To better identify spatially accurate cemetery locations, this layer should be used in conjunction with FGDL Layer Cemeteries (FGDL layer name = GC_CEMETERY). The locations in GC_CEMETERY can be used to cross-reference the cemetery parcels included in this layer. This layer is an update of the previously released FGDL layer "PAR_CEMETERY_09".

The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.

GeoPlan used the available 67-county 2010 parcel tax data records gathered from the State Department of Revenue (DOR) to create the cemetery parcel shapefile. Parcels were selected based on their use-code value. The use-code of 76 ‘Cemeteries’ were selected out. The data set contains the final selections from the original dataset with selected fields removed and Socio-Cultural Effect fields and attribute definitions added.

A note about data scale:
Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.
1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.
Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis.
