The Florida panther (Puma concolor coryi) mortality database contains all known and documented mortalities including known or likely causes. This dataset reflects dead Florida panthers from Feburary 13, 1972 to December 20, 2017. This is an update to the layer panther_mortality_2017.

Received panther telemetry database from Panther Team, containing a cumulative table of spatial coordinates of mortality locations since Feb 1972, as well as associated attributes. Isolated present year data, created XY event of the data using a UTM NAD 83 Zone 17 projection. Projected to Modified Florida Albers using the NAD_1983_To_HARN_Florida transformation, appended to existing shapefile using the Data Management Merge tool and updated this metadata record.

Features in spreadsheet with 0 latitude and longitude coordinates were removed from the spatial file. A point in Georgia which had incorrect UTM coordinates was corrected. Records with "Type" = "Injury" were removed from the dataset, and then the "Type" field was also removed.
The GeoPlan Center took the following steps during the QA/QC process: - Downloaded the datasets from FFWCC on 7/26/2018 using this link: http://geodata.myfwc.com/pages/downloads (original dataset was in shapefile format and in the WGS 1984 geographic coordinate system). - The dataset was projected into the FGDL Albers HPGN projection using the WGS_1984_(ITRF00)_To_NAD_1983 + NAD_1983_To_HARN_Florida transformation. - OBJECTID field was removed. - DESCRIPT field added based on the LOCATION field. Any records with no data in the LOCATION field had their DESCRIPT field calculated as 'NO DESCRIPT AVAILABLE'. - FGDLAQDATE field added based on the date the dataset was downloaded from the source. - The longest record for each field was found and field character lengths were shortened to appropriate shortest lengths possible. - Uppercased fields and appropriate records in the dataset. - Layer name changed from Florida_Panther_Mortality.shp to panther_mortality_dec17.shp
