TITLE: NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE BOUNDARIES IN FLORIDA - 2010

Geodataset Name: NWRFLA_JUN10
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: Polygon
Feature Count: 29
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains the approved acquisition boundaries of the National Wildlife Refuges, National Fish Hatcheries and USFWS administrative sites in Florida. This data layer depicts the external boundaries of lands and waters that are approved for acquisition by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in North America, U.S. Trust Territories and Possessions. The primary source for this information is the USFWS Realty program. This dataset is an update to the FGDL layer NWRFLA_OCT07.

CMPXNAME Complex Name - Name of a number of stations combined under one management structure

ORGNAME Organization Name - Official name given to a Service organization that has been assigned an official five-digit numeric organization code by the Washington Office, Division of Financial Management

ORGCODE Organization Code - Unique five-digit numeric codes assigned by the Washington Office, Division of Financial Management, to Service organizations where personnel are assigned and all unstaffed land management units. Organization codes may also be assigned to meet an administrative requirement.

IFWS Interior-USFWS number - Unique 1-6 character code assigned by the Washington Office, Division of Realty, to each organizational unit, area, or project site over which the Service has some type of jurisdiction.

LIT Literals - Unique alpha codes assigned by the Washington Office, Division of Realty, that identify the organizational units, areas, and project sites on Service-owned lands.

GISACRES Geographic Information System Acres - Acres determined by GIS software for each polygon.

MAXACRES Maximum Acres - The maximum number of calculated acreage the USFWS has approval to acquire of an interest in land and/or water within an Approved Acquisition boundary with a limited approval type.

APPTYPE Approval Type - Extent of authority the USFWS has to acquire an interest in land and/or water within the Approved Acquisition boundary. Authority to acquire an interest in all lands and/or waters within the Approved Acquisition boundary constitutes full approval (Inclusive). Authority to acquire an interest in a percentage of the lands and/or waters within the Approved Acquisition boundary constitutes partial approval (Limited).
Inclusive or "0" = Inclusive - USFWS has approval to acquire an interest in all land and/or water within the Approved Acquisition boundary.

Limited or "1" = Limited - USFWS has approval to acquire an interest in a specified percentage of land and/or water within the Approved Acquisition boundary.

RSL_TYPE Organization Type - Administrative categories that identify Service organizations by their primary facility function, program activities, specialized duties and responsibilities, and/or operational status.
NWR = National Wildlife Refuge

FWSREGION FWS Region - Regional offices within the Service that have responsibility for program and/or administrative activities within a geographically-defined area.
Southeast Region or "4" = Southeast Region, Region 4

USER NOTES:
USFWS: Polygons are closed and adjusted to the most accurate geographic features,
usually on a USGS 7.5' topographic quad.
USFWS: FwsInterest is a dynamic data layer, updates and revisions are ongoing.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.

USFWS:
Up to three levels of quality-control review are conducted with corrections being
incorporated after each review until the dataset is deemed acceptable.
FwsApproved utilizes coded domains to limit coding errors.
The FwsApproved feature class is an aggregated data layer derived by appending
separate regional feature data sets into a single national set. The spatial and
positional accuracy of this information will vary depending on the original source
data and methods utilized. Data sources are not listed in this document but are
maintained for each region and can be requested. We strive to improve the
accuracy of this data and incorporate more reliable information when available.

The intended application of this data layer is as a cadastral framework for use with
other data layers in GIS and mapping applications. It is specifically not intended to
be used as a land survey or representation of land for conveyance or tax
purposes.

USFWS:
This data layer has been verified against USGS 1:24,000-scale and
1:63,360-scale Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs) or 1:12,000-scale Digital
Orthophoto Quarter Quads (DOQQs) where available. For some areas not
covered by USGS, nautical charts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration are used.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy
has not been verified by GeoPlan

USFWS:
This data layer was compiled for use with natural resource mapping and GIS
applications. It is inappropriate to use these data for legal purposes.

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data
compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from
the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is
collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees
about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check
with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist.

Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'.
The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties
or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data
provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center
makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability
of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited
to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular
purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center
shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using,
modifying, contributing or distributing the materials.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

GeoPlan downloaded the FwsApproved.shp from the following USFWS website on June 17th, 2010. (http://www.fws.gov/GIS/data/CadastralDB/index.htm) (http://www.fws.gov/GIS/data/CadastralDB/FwsApproved.zip) - A subset layer (nwrfla_jun10.shp) was created for features that intersected the State of Florida. - The nwrfla_jun10.shp layer was then reprojected from GCS_North_American_1983 to the FGDL NAD83 HARN projection. - The layer's attribute table was uppercased, and the GISACRES field was updated. - Added and populated DESCRIPT and FGDLAQDATE fields.
