USER NOTES:
These data are believed to be logically consistent, although not tested.
Geometry appears topologically clean.
This dataset covers the entire Ocean GIS area (see abstract). Spatial and
attribute properties are believed to be complete, although attribute information
has been simplified. Geometric thresholds from original data are preserved.
No test have been completed for exhaustiveness.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data.

OPIS provides marine resource managers with timely and equitable access to downloadable data, cutting-edge online mapping functionality, and guidance on how to use GIS in a meaningful way with respect to ocean management. THE DATA INCLUDED IN THIS APPLICATION ARE BASED ON INTERPRETATION OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING.

The accuracy of this dataset is based on source data that is assumed to
meet National Map Accuracy Standards.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy has not been verified by GeoPlan

THE DATA INCLUDED IN FGDL ARE 'AS IS' AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING, MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
The boundary file was reprojected and several arcs were edited to
increase the accuracy, especially around Dry Tortugas National Park and
the shoreline in Dade County FL.
Process Date: 19980930

Coordinates from the CFR were used to build a 'generate' file in ARC/INFO. An ARC/INFO coverage was created from this file and reprojected. Attributes were added. Monitor NMS was a point-buffer boundary and Gray's Reef a four point polygon. The datum for Monitor and Gray's Reef NMS coordinates was ASSUMED to be NAD27. Process Date: 19980930
GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the NOAA Coastal Services Center website (http://www.csc.noaa.gov/opis/html/data.htm) on 710/2006. The data was received as a shapefile in projection: Albers, NAD 83, GRS 80. The dataset was then projected from NAD 83 to FGDL Albers HPGN. Two records were deleted as they were not located in Florida (Gray's Reef and Monitor National Marine Sanctuary). - Reprojected data to FGDL Albers HPGN - Added a DESCRIPT field to attribute table based on UNIT_NAME - Added a FGDLAQDATE field based on date of download from source - Deleted OBJECTID, SHAPE_area, and SHAPE_len fields - Added AREA and PERIMETER fields using X-tools - Renamed file from natl_marine_sanctuaries to nmarsa Process Date: 20060710
