This is a statewide layer representing Mitigation Bank Service Areas identified in Mitigation Bank Permits issued under Ch. 373.4136, Florida Statutes by DEP or a Water Management District. Each Mitigation Bank Permit identifies a geographic area served by the permitted mitigation bank. Mitigation banking is a practice in which an environmental enhancement and preservation project is conducted by a public agency or private entity (banker) to provide mitigation for unavoidable wetland impacts within a defined region (mitigation service area-this data layer). The bank is the site itself, and is represented by the Mitigation Banks data layer, also available in MapDirect. For more information on mitigation banking, go to https://floridadep.gov/water/submerged-lands-environmental-resources-coordination/content/mitigation-and-mitigation-banking. This is an update to mgbank_servarea_apr17.
The purpose of this layer is to aggregate service area spatial information associated with mitigation bank permits issued by both DEP and Water Management Districts into one statewide layer. It represents available data up to April, 2018. A statewide ayer for Mitigation Banks is also available and linked by Bank Name.
Individual boundaries come from the local Water Management Districts where possible, or from the mitigation bank consultants. Some boundaries are drawn from permit figures. These boundaries are NOT surveyed or digitized to legal descriptions. For regulatory decisions regarding boundaries, check with the regulatory agency directly.

Spatial and Attribute Information
Bank polygons for St. Johns Water Management District were used to update Mitigation Bank boundaries.
Inserted as a new layer in ArcSDE. Replaces WRM.MITIGATION_BANK_SERVICE_AREAS in DataCatalog, DataMiner and MapDirect.
Added additional banks received from Vicki Tauxe from Mitigation Bank managers. Several bank layers were modified to match the geometry that was received either from the Water Management District or from the bank manager.
Updated boundary for Pensacola Bay MSA with shapfile from bank manager.
Updated layer in ArcSDE and metadata updated
Several attributes (mitigation bank service areas) were added. Layer was restructured for simplicity. Columns were removed.
Updated data in SDE/DataMiner and MapDirect. Schema and symbology for the data has been modified with this update. Metadata updated.

Added additional banks service area: Normandy, Lake Washington. Removed existing bank service area: Jacks Branch.
The GeoPlan Center took the following steps during the QA/QC process: - Downloaded the dataset from FDEP's FTP site on 8/7/2018 using this link: http://publicfiles.dep.state.fl.us/otis/gis/data/ - Dataset from the FDEP website was originally downloaded in a file geodatabase format and in the NAD 1983 HARN Florida GDL Albers coordinate system. - Define Projection tool used to move dataset into the FGDL Albers HPGN projection. - DESCRIPT field added based on the BANK_NAME field. Any records with no data in the BANK_NAME field had their DESCRIPT field calculated as 'NO DESCRIPT AVAILABLE' - FGDLAQDATE field added based on the date the dataset was downloaded from the source. - The longest record for each field was calculated and field character lengths were shortened to the appropriate shortest length possible. - Uppercased fields and records in the dataset. - Layer name changed from Mitigation_Banks.shp to mgbank_servarea_apr18.shp.

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html
