USER NOTES:
These data are logically consistent.
These data do not include mangrove polygons beyond the extent of the ESI
project. These data also do not include thin areas of "fringing" mangrove.
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within
the original data.
This data set is in the public domain, and the recipient may not assert any
proprietary rights thereto nor represent it to anyone as other than a FWC-FWRI
produced data set; it is provided "as-is" without warranty of any kind, including,
but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a
particular purpose. The user assumes all responsibility for the accuracy and
suitability of this data set for a specific application. In no event will the
staff of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission-Fish and
Wildlife Research Institute be liable for any damages, including lost profits,
lost savings, or other incidental or consequential damages arising from the
use of or the inability to use this data set.

This data set represents mangrove areas around coastal Florida.

The ESI shoreline position is primarily based on the recent LULC data
provided by the state WMDs, updated in places using recent DOQQs.
The overall positional accuracy of the shoreline is therefore similar to
the positional accuracy of the primary source materials, which may vary
by WMD. It is estimated that the positional accuracy of "breaks" between
individual ESI shoreline classes is roughly 50-60 meters, based on previous
ESI research conducted for NOAA over the last two years. Due to the
interpretation of DOQQs as a part of this project, the ESI classification
update may exceed this positional accuracy.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy
has not been verified by GeoPlan

THE DATA INCLUDED IN FGDL ARE 'AS IS' AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED
AS LEGALLY BINDING. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GEOPLAN CENTER SHALL
NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED AS A RESULT OF USING,
MODIFYING, CONTRIBUTING OR DISTRIBUTING THE MATERIALS.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
GIS Librarian reselected polygons with a value of MANGROVE = "Y" from
the ESI classification polygons. Research Planning Inc. (RPI)
developed the ESI classification polygons based on the 1994-1995 land use
and land cover for all of Florida's water management districts, with the
exception of the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD),
which was classified based on 1999 DOQQs. At FWRI's request, RPI also
reworked some shoreline in the South Florida Water Management District
(SFWMD), which had poor positional accuracy.

The data received from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Fish and Wildlife Research Institute was in North American Datum of 1983 and projected to Albers HPGN. -Reprojected data to FGDL Albers HPGN -Renamed shapefile from mangrove_coastal_esi_poly to esi_coastal_mangroves -Added a DESCRIPT field with a value of MANGROVE -Deleted MANGROVE and OBJECTID fields from attribute table.
