This dataset contains Functional Classification from the October 2017 version of the Florida Department of Transportation Roads Characteristics inventory (RCI) dataset. Functional Classification provides information on the assignment of roads into systems according to the character of the service they provide in relation to the total road network. The Functional Classification System feature class shows roadway functional classifications as derived from event mapping Feature 121, characteristic FUNCLASS from the FDOT Roadway Characteristics Inventory data.
The FDOT GIS Functional Classification Roadways feature class provides spatial information on the assignment of roads into systems. The two-digit Functional Classification (FUNCLASS) code is used in Federal reports. FUNCLASS is the assignment of roadways into systems according to the character of service they provide in relation to the total roadway network. Florida uses the Federal Functional Classification System, which is common to all states. The original Florida Functional Classification System was eliminated in 1995 by the repeal of Chapter 335.04, F.S. The SHS is determined by mutual agreement and not by functional classification. FUNCLASS determines whether a roadway is STP or FA None, which determines funding categories. FEMA provides emergency funds for roadways that are not on the Federal Highway System. This is required for roadways On or Off the SHS that are NHS or functionally classified.
The RCI is a computerized database of physical and administrative data related to the roadway networks that are either maintained by or are of special interest to the Department. In addition to data required by the Department, the RCI contains other data as required for special Federal and State reporting obligations. The RCI is maintained by District and Central Office personnel. While there are many other important databases maintained by the Department (several that contain more highly technical data such as bridge specifications, highway design, or pavement) the RCI remains the largest database with over 1 million records. Spatial and Attribute Information
This dataset was created using ESRI event mapping. The route system is the Transportation Data and Analytics' linear referencing system (LRS). The event source data are from the funclass table stored in Oracle. The query used to generate the event source table is: select * from funclass;
The data set was taken from the Florida Department of Transportation Statistics Office from the following webpage: http://www.dot.state.fl.us/planning/statistics/gis The data set was originally downloaded in OCTOBER 2017 as the RCI basemap. Specific instructions, created by URS Corporation and the GeoPlan Center, were carried out. The data set is then to be updated on a regular basis. The data was originally in UTM Zone 17, Nad83, units meters. The data was projected to Albers HPGN. -Download the most recent Statewide Personal GeoDataBase -Export from feature class "funclass" to shapefiles -Project the shape file to the standard FGDL projection. -Add Descript item based on FUNCLASS
