FLORIDA FOREVER BOT PROJECTS (layer name FFBOT): This is a polygon data layer for Florida Forever Board of Trustees (BOT) projects (formerly known as CARL projects). This data layer is site-based and contains boundaries of all Florida Forever BOT projects approved by the State's Acquisition and Restoration Council as of 10 October 2008. These lands have been proposed for acquisition because of outstanding natural resources, opportunity for natural resource-based recreation, or historical and archaeological resources. However, these areas may not be currently managed for their resource value. Portions of these projects may have already been acquired by the State and/or its acquisition partners.
To provide a statewide GIS data layer for all Florida Forever Board of Trustees projects on the current list approved by the Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC).

Spatial and Attribute Information
This GIS data layer was generated by the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) using ArcView v 3.2 and ArcGIS v 9.2. Source polygons were developed from the BIOTICS ArcView application. Boundary information for Florida Forever BOT projects was provided by the Florida Forever Program, Office of Environmental Services, Division of State Lands, Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Boundary information was originally in either digital format or on paper source maps with varying scales. Digital boundary files were received from various sources and integrated into FFBOT by FNAI staff. In the case of paper source maps, FNAI staff digitized these boundaries (on screen or with digitizer) using 1:24000 7.5' USGS quadrangles as base maps. The following digitizers were used by the FNAI GIS: CalComp DBII, accuracy of +/- .01 inch CalComp DBIII, accuracy of +/- .005 inch CalComp 9500 Series, accuracy of +/- .005 inch When digital boundaries from one source overlapped with digital boundaries from another source, the boundaries were adjusted by FNAI staff to eliminate the overlapping areas. Adjustments were made based on the best known information about the source of the boundaries. All overlaps greater than 0.002 meters were removed using this process.
GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the Florida Natural Areas Inventory website (http://www.fnai.org/gis_data.cfm) in October 2008. The data downloaded was in shapefile format and was in the following projection: Albers HPGN. - All records were upcased. - Changed original layer name from FFBOT to FL_FOREVER_OCT08. - A DESCRIPT field was added based on PROJECT_NA - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on date GeoPlan downloaded the data
Data imported to ArcSDE and exported as a shapefile.

ESRI
SITE_ID = Unique numeric identifier for each site, designed by NatureServe for use with the BIOTICS Tracker data management system.
NatureServe
SITECODE_B = BCD site code. Unique alphanumeric identifier for each site, designed by The Nature Conservancy for use with the Biological Conservation Data system. Begins with "S.USFLHP*".
The Nature Conservancy
SITENAME = Site name. The name of the Florida Forever BOT project, or portion of the project, represented by the site. For Florida Forever BOT projects that are composed of multiple sites (e.g., Dade County Archipelago Florida Forever BOT Project), the SITENAME for each site begins with the name of the project, and this is followed by the name of the particular site within the project (e.g., Dade County Archipelago Florida Forever BOT Project - Whispering Pines).
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands, Office of Environmental Services
PROJECT_NA = Project name. The name of the Florida Forever BOT project that the site is contained within. Most projects contain only one site (e.g., Babcock Ranch Florida Forever BOT Project), but some projects are composed of multiple sites (e.g., Lake Wales Ridge Ecosystem Florida Forever BOT Project). Since all sites belonging to a project have the same PROJECT_NA, a query conducted on this attribute will select the entire Florida Forever BOT project.
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands, Office of Environmental Services
SHORT_NAME = Abbreviated name of the Florida Forever BOT project. Since all sites belonging to a project have the same SHORT_NAME, a query conducted on this attribute will select the entire Florida Forever BOT project.
PROJECT_CD = Project code. Unique identifier for each Florida Forever BOT project. All sites within a project have the same Project code.
FNAI
SHORT_SITE = Abbreviated name of site within the Florida Forever BOT project.
COUNTY = County code(s). Abbreviation for the county or counties where the Florida Forever BOT project is located. The first four letters of the county name (exception: DADE = Miami-Dade County).
PRISEC_ACR = Area of the Florida Forever BOT project site, in acres. This figure was obtained from the FL DEP Office of Environmental Services and is based on deed acres from plat maps or tax roll records, unless otherwise noted in SITECOM.
GIS_ACRES = Area of the Florida Forever BOT project site, in acres, calculated from GIS boundaries by the BIOTICS Mapper ArcView 3.2 application.
BOUNDJUST = Boundary justification. The name and date of the Florida Forever BOT project or portion of the project (i.e., site within the project) represented by the GIS boundaries.
PROTCOM = Protection comments. Number of acres within the Florida Forever BOT project that have been protected (i.e., purchased by the State of Florida or one of its acquisition partners), and the State's acquisition partners, if any.
MACOM1 = Managed Area comments, part 1. Relationship of Florida Forever BOT project to managed area(s), also called conservation land(s). If a portion of the project site has been purchased and is currently being managed, MACOM gives the name of the Managed Area and the name of the managing agency.
MACOM2 = Managed Area comments, continued from MACOM1.
SITE_RELAT = Site relations. Gives relationship of this Florida Forever BOT project site to other sites, including current Florida Forever BOT projects and former CARL projects. Indicates whether the project site represented by the GIS boundaries is greater than (>), less than (<), or equal to (=) the other site(s). For example, Whispering Pines is a site within the Dade County Archipelago Florida Forever BOT Project, and it was added to the project in 1996. This relationship is described in SITE_RELAT as "CARL Project: Dade County Archipelago [1996] - <".
SITEDESC1 = Site description. Ecological description of the site.
SITEDESC2 = Site description, continued from SITE_DESC1.
SITECOM1 = Site comments. Miscellaneous information about Florida Forever BOT project, including dates of additions/deletions to project boundary, and relationship of project to its component sites or to certain rare species occurrences.
SITECOM2 = Site comments, continued from SITECOM1.
FF_GROUP = Florida Forever group. The Florida Forever group to which the project was assigned by the Acquisition and Restoration Council on 13 June 2008. Group A projects are those that receive the highest priority for acquisition. Group B projects are those that are important but not of the highest priority.
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands, Office of Environmental Services
DIG_COM = Source of the digital boundaries and date. Indicates whether GIS boundaries were provided by an outside agency/organization or were transscribed and digitized by FNAI staff as described earlier. Includes date (month/year) digital boundary file was received by FNAI and/or revisions were made by FNAI staff.
FDEP_URL = Web address for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Forever Five Year Plan project summary.

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation.
