FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION
VERSION 2005
TITLE: 2001 INTERMODAL TERMINAL FACILITIES
Geodataset Name: FCTF Geodataset Type: SHAPE Geodataset Feature: POINT
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains geographic data for trailer-on-flatcar (TOFC) and container-on-flatcar (COFC) highway rail and/or rail-water transfer facilities in the State of Florida. Attribute data specify the intermodal connections at each facility; i.e., the modes involved in the intermodal transfer, the AAR reporting marks of the railroad serving the facility, the type of cargo (always containers/trailers), and the direction of the transfer.

FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:
ITEM ITEM DESCRIPTION Shape The SHAPE attribute is a data attribute inherent to the ESRI shapefile format. Pointid PointID is a sequential unique integer assigned to each record. Version The Version is a 2-character value representing the version number. The version is incremented for all records in the database whenever a new release is distributed. Revision The REVISION is a 2-character value representing the records revision number. The revision number is increments individually for each record whenever a change is made to one of its fields. Moddate The MODDATE (or modification date) is a character field indicates when each record in the database was last changed. As changes are made to a record, the modification date is entered in the format 'yyyymmdd' Featureid FeatureID is a unique character string assigned to each record. Formatted as SSCCC-NNN where SS is the State Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) code, CCC is a County FIPS code and NNNN is a sequential number within SSCCC Longitude Longitude coordinate value of the terminal - formatted with six implied decimal places Latitude Latitude coordinate value of the terminal - formatted with six implied decimal places Stfips Two character state Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Code. Mode1 First mode of transportation in the intermodal connection H- Highway P- Pipeline R- Rail W- Water Mode2 Second mode of transportation in the intermodal connection H- Highway P- Pipeline R- Rail W- Water Rr_id Association of American Railroads (AAR) reporting mark of the rail carrier involved in the intermodal connection. Cargo Cargo indicates the type of cargo that is involved in the transfer. The field is a string of three characters that corresponds to the descriptions enumerated below. 100- Container cargo (including highway trailers on rail flatcars and marine vessel roll-on/roll-off) 200- Category breakbulk/unitized cargo 210- Food Products 220- Lumber and Wood 230- metal Products 240- Machinery 250- Motor Vehicles 260- Pulp and paper products 270- Clay, concrete, glass, and stone building material 280- Livestock 290- Other breakbulk cargo not previously classified 300- Dry Bulk Cargo 310- Coal 320- Grain 330- Metallic ores and bulk metals 340- Wood Chips 350- Cement 390- Other Dry Bulk Goods 391- Chemicals 392- Dry Edibles 393- Minerals and other dry bulk materials 400- Liquid Cargo 410- Crude petroleum 420- Petroleum Products 490- Category - non-petroleum bulk liquids 491- Chemical Products 492- Liquid Edibles Trans_dir The transfer direction indicates the direction in which the cargo is being moved. A 1 indicates that the cargo is being transferred from transportation mode1 to transportation mode2. A 2 indicates that the cargo is being moved in both directions. Descript Facility name and city location
USER NOTES:
The dataset provides location and attribute information for use in national and regional cartographic and network analysis applications. Attribute data were extracted from the IANA 1997 Rail Intermodal Terminal Directory, the Official Railway Guide; the TTX Company Intermodal Directory; World Wide Web home pages of Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Conrail, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern, and Norfolk Southern; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Port Series Reports; Containerization International Yearbook; 1996 AAPA Directory; and various transportation news sources both in print and on the Internet. Attribute data reflect conditions at TOFC/COFC facilities during 1995-96 and are subject to frequent change. Some facilities may be dormant or permanently closed. The database includes TOFC/COFC facilities and marinecontainer terminals with rail connections which were listed the IANA 1997 Rail Intermodal Terminal Directory, the January/February 1997 edition of the Official Railway Guide; the TTX Company Intermodal Directory; the World Wide Web home pages of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Conrail, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern, and Norfolk Southern; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Port Series Reports; Containerization International Yearbook; 1996 AAPA Directory; and various transportation news sources both in print and on the Internet. The database does not include TOFC/COFC and marine container facilities known to have been closed before or during 1996. However, because of the frequent turnover of this type of facility, some of the terminals included in the database may now be dormant or permanently closed. The locations of TOFC/COFC facilities were determined using available facility addressinformation and MapExpert, a commercial nationwide digital map database and softwarepackage, and recording the longitude/latitude of the approximate center of the facility. Facility locations are not bound to any currentor previous highway, railway, or waterwaynetwork models. Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our web pages at: http://www.geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
This data was downloaded in shapefile format from Geospatial Data 2001 National Transportation Atlas Data at http://199.79.179.77/gis/ntatlas/natlas.html by the GeoPlan Center in 2001. Lowercase characters within the attribute table were upcased. When received, data was in Geographic projection, Datum: NAD83, Spheroid: GRS1980, Units: Meters.
