Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains the boundaries of all CARL projects identified in the Conservation and Recreation Lands 1998 Annual Report.
Purpose:
This dataset contains the boundaries of all CARL projects identified in the Conservation and Recreation Lands 1998 Annual Report. These lands have been proposed for acquisition because of outstanding natural resources, opportunity for natural resource based recreation, or historical and archaeological resources. However, these areas may not be currently managed for their resource value. Portions of these projects may have already been acquired by the State.

THE DATA INCLUDED IN THIS APPLICATION ARE BASED ON INTERPRETATION OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING.

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale data sets are not suitable for some projects, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale data sets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale data sets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:250000 scale data sets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data layer.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Certain node/geometry and topology (GT)-polygon/chain relationships are collected or generated to satisfy topological requirements. Some of these requirements include: chains must begin and end at nodes, chains must connect to each other at nodes, chains do not extend through nodes, left and right GT-polygons are defined for each chain element and are consistent throughout the transfer, and the chains representing the limits of the file (neatline) are free of gaps. The neatline is generated by connecting the four corners of the digital file, as established during initialization of the digital file. All data outside the enclosed region are ignored and all data crossing these geographically straight lines are clipped at the neatline. (Exception: During the QA/QC process all data is examined and if errors are found and corrections are possible, then data is corrected accordingly. This process is documented in the Process_Step.) Data within a specified tolerance of the neatline are snapped to the neatline. Neatline straightening aligns the digitized edges of the digital data with the generated neatline, that is, with the longitude/latitude lines in geographic coordinates. All internal polygons are tested for closure. Certain attributes and/or entities, e.g. closure line, convey data quality information. When information to be encoded in the subfield is known to be not applicable (undefined, not relevant), then the subfield is valued by a string of "9s"; and when the information to be encoded is relevant but unknown (or missing), then the subfield is valued by a string of "9s."

In addition to a small portion of boundaries received as digital files from the CARL Program, the majority of boundary information was on paper source maps with various scales. FNAI staff transcribed the boundaries onto 1:24,000 USGS topographic quadrangles. FNAI's GIS staff then digitized boundaries from the USGS quadrangles. The following digitizers were used by the FNAI GIS:

CalComp DBII, accuracy of +/ .01 inch CalComp DBIII, accuracy of +/ .005 inch CalComp 9500 Series, accuracy of +/ .005 inch

This GIS coverage was generated by using ARC/INFO ver 7.1.2 (unix) and exported to NONE compressed .e00 format. The coverages are in projection of ALBERS.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The process step describes, in general, the process used in the production of data sets. The originating agencies created the original spatial coverage. GeoPlan, during the QA/QC process included the following aspects: (1) Reprojected data to FGDL Albers (2) Set Precision to DOUBLE (3) Set Tolerances to FGDL Standards. (4) Added the DESCRIPT item based on SITENAME

Site name. The name of the CARL project, or portion of the CARL project, represented by the site. For CARL projects that are composed of multiple sites (e.g., Dade County Archipelago CARL Project), the SITENAME for each site begins with the name of the CARL project , and this is followed by the name of the particular site within the project (e.g., Dade County Archipelago CARL Project Whispering Pines).

Attribute_Label: PRISEC_A
Attribute_Definition:
Primary and Secondary Acres. Total acreage of the CARL project when the CARL project is not divided into multiple sites. In this case, PRIMA_ A is 00. Figures are not GIS calculated (i.e., not polygonbased); instead, they are derived from the 1998 CARL Annual Report.

When a CARL project is divided into multiple sites, and

--the sizes of the individual component sites are known, PRISEC_A represents the acreage of the individual site rather than the entire CARL project. In this case, PRIMA_A is 00.

--the sizes of all sites within a project are not known, the total project size is listed in PRISEC_A for only one of the component sites, and PRIMA_A is used for individual site acres (see below).

Primary Acres. Figures are not GIScalculated (i.e., not polygonbased) but are derived from the 1998 CARL Annual Report. This attribute is used only when a CARL project is made up of more than one site and the sizes of all the individual sites within the project are not known. In this case, PRIMA_A represents the acreage of the particular site within the project, and the size of the entire CARL project is listed under PRISEC_A once, for only one of the component sites. Site Relations. Gives relationship of this CARL project site to other sites, including CARL projects.
