It is the death rate excluding areas considered unstable by the National Cancer Institute. The rates are for cancer XXX (see table below) per 100,000 population for gender Y (see table below). The numbers are age-adjusted to the 1970 U.S. population. An area was considered unstable if (a) the observed number of deaths was less than 6; (b) the observed number of deaths was less than 12 and the rate was not significantly different statistically from the U.S. rate; or (c) the expected number of deaths was less than 6 and the rate was not significantly different statistically from the U.S. rate. XXX indicates the cancer to which the number applies, where: acc - All cancers bla - Bladder bra - Brain and other nervous system bre - Breast (only reported for females) cer - Cervix uteri (only reported for females) col - Colon eso - Esophagus kid - Kidney, renal pelvis, and ureter leu - Leukemia lgb - Liver, gallbladder, and other biliary tract lun - Lung, trachea, bronchus, and pleura nhl - Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma ora - Oral cavity and pharynx oth - Other and unspecified cancers ova - Ovary (only reported for females) pan - Pancreas pro - Prostate (only reported for males) rec - Rectum sto - Stomach ute - Corpus uteri and uterus not otherwise specified (only reported for females) Y indicates the gender to which the number applies, where: f White females m White males DESCRIPT FGDL added item based on county name.
