This dataset contains estimates of agricultural chemical use, LU, and cropping practices in the counties of Florida as reported in the 1987 Census of Agriculture (U.S. Department of Commerce, 1989a). Agricultural-chemical use data are reported as either acres on which used, tons, or as a percentage of county area. Agricultural-chemical use estimates were generated from surveys of all farms where $1,000 or more of agricultural products were sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year.
To be used to estimate regional agricultural-chemical use or agricultural practices and to produce visual displays and map relative rates of agricultural-chemical use or agricultural practices across broad regions of the United States. This may help in future research concerning the presence and distribution of agricultural chemicals in water resources of the United States.

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modelling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation. For more information regarding scale and accuracy, see our webpage at: http://geoplan.ufl.edu/education.html. These data are based on interpretation of available information and should not be construed as legally binding.

Spatial and attribute information
This data was created by the USGS in 1994. Data was downloaded by GeoPlan as a ArcInfo Export Interchange File from the Georgia GIS Data Clearinghouse in 2001 (http://www.gis.state.ga.us/Clearinghouse/clearinghouse.html) When received, data in following projection: Projection: Albers Conical Equal Area Spheroid: Clarke 1866 Units: Meters 1st Standard Parallel: 45.5 2nd Standard Parallel: 29.5 Central Meridian: -96 Latitude of projection's origin: 23 False easting: 0.0 False Northing: 0.0 The data was projected and clipped to the State of Florida (Data was downloaded as a Southeast Region dataset, including data for the states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina). The dataset was then converted to a shapefile. Most of the attributes summarized represent 1987 data, but some information from the 1982 Census of Agriculture also was included. The polygons of the original dataset, representing county boundaries in the conterminous United States, as well as lakes, estuaries, and other nonland-area features were derived from the Digital Line Graph (DLG) files representing the 1:2,000,000-scale map in the National Atlas of the United States (1970).
GeoPlan, during the QA/QC process included the following aspects: 1.) Reprojected data to FGDL Albers HPGN (See "Map Projection Parameters" below) 2.) Extent set to the State of Florida 3.) Added DESCRIPT item based on CNTYNAME 4.) Upcased character records. 5.) Dropped old internal coverage items: AG_CHEMFL#, AG_CHEMFL-ID, AG_CHEM_, AG_CHEM_ID 6.) Dropped miscellaneous items: WORKB
Internal feature number.
